DENIM BY GRAHAM MARSH
I recently took delivery of this book. Whilst it's not your typical Ivy fare it's still worth considering.
A few highlights.
Firstly, as you'd expect from RAP it's beautifully designed, quality material and sharp, clear imagery.
What the authors have managed to capture is the enduring appeal of denim and workwear. Although all the images are over 80 years old they still feel very now. Some of the images could be publicity shots from Armani, RRL or one of the many Japanese retro brands.
John Simons, Drakes, Uniqlo and others over the years have combined workwear with soft shoulders, button downs and loafers so there's some synergy with what we like over here.
If you're looking for another Ivy book sadly you'll be disappointed but if you want either something interesting for your coffee table or a slice of menswear history I would def buy a copy.

Absolutely fabulous book, went to the launch at American Classics last week, great to catch up with Tony, Graham and June again.
It could very easily be shoots from a current brand campaign, classic items and excellent examples of repairs to clothes, something very much part of the Ivy Style White Shoe status signifier (though obviously this is not what is being shown here). In fact it’s these beautifully repaired items I found most wonderful, as well as the images of the Japanese American workers who look so contemporary.

I really hope this book is a success and it stimulates further denim related books from them.
Whilst I appreciate that all the images are drawn from a single archive it would be great to see a second volume exploring the 50's and 60's.

I have Wranglers MWZ13. Recommended by Oliver who used to post on here (remember him?)and as cheap as chips from Sheplers. Rodeo riders' choice so no builders bum. OK it's not selvage, but I never got I to that. Great for gardening and what Americans call 'yard work'.
I am getting around to my father's view that jeans are overalls. Irishmen did not really do work wear. McAlpine's Fusiliers wore old suits that were previously seen at Mass on Sundays. Decent boots might be the only concession for navvies. Tradesmen not so.much.
