Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

I had an email pop up this morning from Gant promoting their 'GANT 240 Mulberry Street' collection, I had a browse and noticed some ' relaxed fit shirts', a couple had a
' Union Made-in-USA' stamp full price £200, several others in nice stripes & checks around £140 - £175, one in particular caught my eye a blue OCBD with a nice double yellow stripe, good looking collar roll, crucially no logo on the pocket or locker loop, just on the sleeve placket (?),  has anyone seen these 'in-the-flesh' ? I've sometimes seen similar in the recent past but when I've seen them instore they don't look as good as the pictures, if they're any good might be worth looking out for them in the regular Gant sale, they must be due one soon !

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

Interesting...I would definitely pick this one up: https://www.gant.co.uk/relaxed-fit-striped-archive-oxford-shirt-vintage-blue/3240243-442.html

....but only when on sale. But why not also union-made in the USA, I wonder?

In any case, I have an only poly-cotton Gant hugger shirt in that same material (I've never known what to call it?)....which I would happily replace for a full cotton version. But not worth £175 for a shirt, tbh

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

Colin - that's the one that caught my eye, back in the day (late 60's), there were always plenty of this type of OCBD striped shirt available in the Ivy Shop, and to be fair Ben Sherman did some good ones, ( copies as John Lally would have said !), but once you'd made the switch to the USA made shirts from the Ivy shop there was no going back to BS's ! I will keep an eye out for Gant sales and see as/when this one comes up, but to be fair I'm probably looking at a 45-50% discount on the full price ....

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

I like the look of that Gant shirt and sure enough I had a striped BS just like that in 1969. As Stax writes the switch was then made to 'authentic' made USA shirts, if you had the dough.

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

Just had a look at these.

Is the Garland factory the old Brooks Bros facility?

Whilst £200 is expensive, it's still a contender for a Made In the first world shirt plus taxes, shipping etc.

A Mercer is now $225 plus shipping. Add to this any resizing costs such as making them long enough to tuck in!

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

Today I had reason to go to Bracknell just a few miles from where I live, so I went into the new'ish shopping centre where there is a Fenwick store, some decent own brand knitwear on sale, ( cashmere crew down to £105), I had a look at the Gant offerings, I discovered their ' regular fit ' 5 pockets trousers are in fact (very) slim and stretchy, there was a shirt that caught my eye, a red tartan ' relaxed fit ' , good material, nice collar roll, no logo, £140, from Gants ' Anniversary Collection', I tried it on and the M was like a modern L, red tartan isn't really my thing but it was worth checking the sizing in case the blue stripe relaxed oxford comes up in their next sale, and I took a look in the TKMax, there were a couple of RL corduroy harringtons around £90, again not really my thing, ( harringtons & logos), but I guess it dispelled my theory of never seeing anything any good in TKM !

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

I like the look of the Gant 240 collection shirts that are made in the USA. I'll wait for sale prices although at £200 I might be tempted at some stage but I suppose I would buy a Jake shirt instead. Re TKM I'm composing a list of Ivy items I've bought over the years. I'm already up to a dozen bits of clothing . It does take a lot of searching to find a gem amongst all the dross.I note that a Jake shirt appeared and was sold on Marrkt today.

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

Just a quick note of caution about TKM and Polo.

They're currently stocking Polo cashmere cable knit sweaters at greatly reduced prices.

I don't think these are of the same as the sweaters available in the Ralph Stores that use Italian cashmere and have the rectangular POLO label.

Robbie - be interesting to see your TKM Ivy list, I guess the never worn bright green jacket will be on there, and was there also a pink one ? !

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

Stax-Yes mate.HaHa, I was only thinking today about the pink and bright green RL jackets. I dyed them burgundy and an olive colour but it didn't quite work out and I never wear them. I have been considering dying them again to deepen the colours but it might be throwing good money after bad. My best find was a made in USA Brooks Brothers blue white striped OCBD shirt. I don't wear that much but it looks good in the wardrobe

Re: Gant Relaxed Fit Shirts

And as AS says one has to be careful with some of the stuff on sale there.I bought a pair of RL Polo chinos once and the missus spotted that the strides must have been returned by someone else having had a dry clean
