Spring is in the Air

With the talk of loafers and bright, lighter weather in recent days, it's starting to feel like Spring.

We're in that transitional stage, still cold at night and early mornings, could even get a day of snow that then melts quickly.

So what hybrid Winter-Spring clothing choices do you make?

As with white clothes in USA, is there an official 'no more flannel shirts' day?

Re: Spring is in the Air

Mrs Singer often claims I dress for myself and not the weather.  She is probably right as this has resulted in panic buying of t-shirts, a hoodie and a coat at various sporting events.

During the day I'm currently wearing loafers and thicker shetlands without a coat, trying to make the most of the weather.

I recently invested in a LL Bean Warm-Up jacket that works well later at night and is possibly one of the best things I've bought.

Exceptionally warm, great cut and a higher collar that looks good when zipped up and adds some warmth. It's also a bit different from the ubiqitous Harrington.

I'm not yet at chino level

Light weight chambray BD shirts and spring chinos on during this weekend. It is warm.

Last night for some jazz in Richmond: vintage suede Burberry’s varsity jacket, maroon Lacoste long sleeve polo, white jeans, Rancourt loafers. It was great to go out without wrapping up in scarves etc.

Haha Robbie - jazz is a bit ‘Marmite’ for most people I must admit!

Love a bit of Jazz, always played in Russell St & The Ivy Shop(s). Seemed to go hand in hand with the clothing.

I like jazz as well. The 'nice' comment was a bit tongue in check and I was thinking the combination of clothes sounded good. Maroon polo with white jeans and loafers. I need to try that out

Re: Spring is in the Air

I'm always a bit wary when wearing ecru/white jeans as I can be a bit messy when out on the razzle. My mates (and the missus) tell me I lack an 'off button' when I'm out, out.

Re: Spring is in the Air

The rugby at Twickenham on Sunday was a bit warm, to say the least. I thought I was overdressed in cord Keydge, OCBD, Lee jeans, thick socks and Astorflex dessies. Had the last laugh though - as after the game - sat outside the pub at eight it was beyond nippy!

Re: Spring is in the Air

With all the sunny days and lighter evenings my mind is started to think about what wardrobe upgrades I need.

In truth, I don't really need anything - especially as my wife and daughter think all my clothes look the same.

JS has posted some new madras swatches that look interesting. I still don't like the collar size though. The Winter Sale is still being promoted and I haven't seen anything new yet that really tempts me apart from the lovely Adonis loafer.

Kamakaura now has cotton and seersucker suits. That's an option.

I'm always on the look out for stone chinos. I've bought some Jack Donnelly one's that need tailoring.

Maybe a pastel yellow Lacoste. A bit 80's prep.

J Press is slow this year to release their Spring collection and the stupid duties are excessive.

Has anyone started looking around yet.

Nice work. There's nothing yet in my head to buy, but ideas may arrive. This weather is great, I am in Amsterdam for a few days which is warmer still.

Re: Spring is in the Air

Other than snapping up 3 twin packs of Velva Sheen tees I’ve tried to avoid buying anything. But last week there was a Grenson sample sale locally and I picked up a pair of Quincy sandals in black and some Made in Northampton tuxedo slippers, the latter are very extravagant (don’t even own a tux) but the price was too hard to walk away from and I do have a raft of 50th birthday events incoming.

Re: Spring is in the Air

I need to look up Tuxedo Slippers. I have worn the patent shoes (or shiny, flat sole derbies) with mine at events.

Re: Spring is in the Air

Unseen - if you haven’t been before, The English Hatter in Heiligeweg, Amsterdam (just over the bridge from the flower market) is worth a visit. It’s not particularly Ivy etc, but a nice traditional mens outfitter run by nice people. You never know, something might catch your eye.
Then you’re not too far away from Cafe Hoppe in Spuistraat for a relaxing beer.

Been eyeing the Keaton Chase popovers at All Blues. Any of you guys had any experience with these shirts, collar length etc ?

Those are the ones AUS, I’ve set up a search for a madras tux, I remember Oliver had a lovely one.

Re: Spring is in the Air

Unbelievably, I had an Ivy dressed Uber driver in Amsterdam.
Think Black Ivy style. Very expensive looking loafers on.

I was in a group, he looked at my grain weejuns, Spring green Donegal fleck slack-ish jacket, yellow stripe blue OCBD with a great rolled collar, almost boston crew/suede cut and nodded.

Unseen but noted. Nice
