I'm only a snob in that I look down on snobs...
What's wrong with Amjack if the style is done well?
In England I love to spot Chavs when I'm out & about. They're interesting.

I think Amjack is shot through with Americana and even has a Trad aspect all of its very own.
There is also an integrity there with them which Internet Gentlemen, Trads et al, lack.
So lets hear it for our Amjack brothers -
I'll need to do an "In praise of White Trash" thread next then...
Which was Elvis?
Lots of lovely "What is the Chavest...?" stuff here -

Anybody with any good Amjack pics to post?
I'll go looking for good Chav shots too.
Their clothes may not be our clothes and their ways may not be our ways but at least they are REAL.
Lovely & chavvy:

^ A mix of Chavettes and the upper end of the spectrum I think.
In what way(s) different is this Chav from an Amjack?

^ That last shot has the look, eh?
Very Chav:

Living in the land of AmJacks, it's hard for me to think of anything "Amjack but done well" since by its very definition, there is no merit to anything in the AmJack's sartorial choices.
Oversized stripey shirts: heinous, and they're always unbuttoned halfway down the torso
Faded bootcut jeans with adornments/embellishments: ghastly
Big square toe clodhoppers: I'm a fan of chunky shoes but not of the AmJack variety. There is a universe of difference between a heavy shoe like Alden double soled brogues and Amjack Aldo/KenCole black square toe beasts
The frangrance: When I walk by Abercrombie and Fitch and the smell of the men's cologne wafts outside and hits my nose, I know it is the smell of daterape. Does that fucking store spritz their cologne from automated dispensers because you can smell that store about 2 blocks away
sorry David, I'm too prejudiced to agree with any merits of AmJackery
Well as I say their ways & their clothes aren't ours but any style can be done well or done badly.
I suspect the problem for us (& for me too with Chavs) is that their sense of aesthetics is so alien to us that it's hard for us to give them marks out of ten.
But there must be a hierarchy amongst them.
A&F as Amjack is interesting.
Jack Wills is getting kinda Chavy in Cheltenham I noticed this weekend. The "wrong people" are now wearing the brand. They mix and match it with their other rather more down-market items.

I really liked this on Chav style:

Does this resonate with Amjack in the US?

How do Amjack girls compare?

Regardless of what anyone says, the Amjack style is not as bad as any style that involves male camel-toe. When all else fails - wear a dance strap.
A trifle:

Not sure if it contains Rum.
That's better -

... I suspect Amjack is not what I think it is!
Nothing like our Chav then?
Not Po White Trash?
Just average US middle-class stodge?
I've made a fool out of myself here haven't I? Thinking it was as raw and glorious as our English Chav...
... But all of a sudden I now really understand the antipathy for Amjack on the MBs.
Because the forumites would all be wearing Amjack if they weren't so busy being Internet Gents.
Brownshoe was right - This isn't about class, it's about trying to distance yourself from who you really are by playing dress-up on the MBs.
By George, I think I've got it!
And the thought occurs that maybe Ivy style was the Amjack of the 50's. The middle-class stodge of its day in America.
Jeepers!
