New Pince-Nez Eyewear Blog

I've been a longtime fan of pince-nez eyewear. Glasses without the temples. Nose pinchers, literally. There is not much information on the net regarding modern wear of the beautiful glasses, so I decided to start a blog. Please check it out if you are interested.  The Pince-Nez Renaissance at pincenez1.blogspot.com  . Thanks.

Jesus, yet another pince-nez eyewear blog?  Just kidding, man, thanks for the heads-up and good luck.

Chum,

congratulations on your new venture.  Please keep us up-to-date.  I may have to invest in a pair.

I should start a Monocle Blog. Maybe I'll be invited to the next CSF.

Thanks for all the support.  I do have a piece on monocles on my other blog at http://dandync.blogspot.com/2008/01/monocle.html  I don't advocate wearing monocles but they are interesting.

I like the minimalist approach and while I don't wear eyeglasses, I do wear sunglasses.  Basic question:  How do pince-nez glasses stay on without any apparent supporting structures.

Basic question:  How do pince-nez glasses stay on without any apparent supporting structures.

There are two basic kinds of pince-nez: fingerpiece and hoopspring.  The fingerpiece is held in place on the nose by tension provided from tiny spring coils in the noseguard.  The levers are on the front and you push the levers to place and take off the nose.  The hoopspring is much simpler.  The tension is from the bridge itself.  You spread the lenses apart and place on the nose.

You really have to try them on to understand.  It is quite secure.  Next time you are in antique store, try it out for the hell of it.
