Hilditch & Key: Whole Lot Of Nothing

Following the recent shirt pattern-matching imbroglio, I had occasion to return to Hilditch & Key's website, who I know from personal experience use the pattern-matching angle to sell more crap shirts than you can shake a stick at.  As bad as I know H&K to be, I had to take a refresher course to fully appreciate how they continue to successfully fleece their customers...

http://www.hilditchandkey.co.uk/shop/the_shirt.htm

Hilditch boasts about the following selling points that disitnguish the H&K shit, er, shirt...

*Removeable collar stays (lol)
*2-piece yoke (gee whiz)
*Round cuff (zzzzzzzzzzzz)
And, here they get out the shovel...
*Split yoke stipes match (imagine that!)
*Matched shoulder stripes (no shit?)
*Pocket stripes match (omg!)
*Sleeve placket stripes match (I'll order 10 shirts)
*Long shirt (Make that 20 shirts)

H&K representative: Thank you, sir.  It's a pleasure.

One "feature" Marc forgot to mention is the side gusset. H&K make sure to flog this hallmark of quality. Pretty sure they didn't go to the trouble of pattern matching that.

Re: Hilditch & Key: Whole Lot Of Nothing

Eventhough l much prefer the look of a shirt without a pocket, l love nothing more than to have a shirt with a pocket. l often have to socialise in the evening as part of business, a shirt pocket is essential. l often have to get my pen out while standing so l can write contacts details and take notes. Not everyone is chained to their desk.....important business is done in many ways.

The people that criticise shirt pockets are narrow minded twits.

l couldn't care less if a pen spoils the drape of my shirt. That is the least of my worries. l usually have a jacket on anyway.

Low class slob that I am, I get my shirts off the peg at whatever discounts are available.  If the shirt has a pocket, grand, if not, grand as well.  I'm an adaptable guy.  I can find a place for my pen somewhere.  Much like Mr. Milton in his celebrated poem, I tug upon it until at length it comes.

As for pockets, I like either none or two. One must have a method to their madness. wink

Re: Hilditch & Key: Whole Lot Of Nothing

Bugger me, I just ordered a hamper of cheese et al from Paxton.  Good stuff looks like.

David -- have you done any serious shirt shopping on Jermyn St?  I was at one time fond of Harvie & Hudson, but I stupidly asked them to do a Brooks collared shirt and it didn't come out right.  Not their fault, but mine, of course.  I've liked New & Lingwood, and thought the combo of the Jermyn ST. shirt and the Ivy suit went together well.

Re: Hilditch & Key: Whole Lot Of Nothing

The assessment of a Hilditch & Key shirt by my own shirtmaker in this brief article really sums it up: HORRIBLE!

Re: Hilditch & Key: Whole Lot Of Nothing

I liked their rtw shirts a lot more than when I selected some custom shirts at their trunk show offering.
