Anyone have Lattanzi?

What do you think of them? How do they compare to your other shoes?

Re: Anyone have Lattanzi?

I have a pair of Chelsea boots from Louis Boston. They are made to a very high quality, but quite Italian in style.

You can clearly see the handwork that went into the shoe, notably the sole and edge. The sole--before they were worn--was also particularly refined, moreso, in my opinion, than Lobb, etc. It has a nice slightl curve, a fiddle-back as it were.

^^^  Those are about 10 years old.  The actually just darkened them for me, and I like them more.  The work that goes into the shoes is very, very good.

That's an odd color though.  For my admittedly provincial tastes.....

Re: Anyone have Lattanzi?

lammatt:  did you request that the uppers be sewn by hand, or is this common place for Lattanzi bespoke?

Do RTW Lattanzi's have their uppers sewn by hand?

Re: Anyone have Lattanzi?

Came close to pulling the trigger a few times, but just have them vicariously when I pass by their NY store.  I was interested to learn that Lattanzi purchased Gatto shoes, based in Rome, last year, which are a whole different type of style than Lattanzi.  I believe Gatto (The Cat) is only custom, or at least used to be.  I wonder if Lattanzi will come out with a ready-made line from Gatto.

Re: Anyone have Lattanzi?

l wonder why he (Lattanzi) would do such a thing.

The only thing that really makes sence is that:
* he is going to come out with a RTW range but under a different name (brand diversification, but keeping his respected name out of it)

* or maybe he is going to introduce a lower level RTW shoe under the Lattanzi name.

Obviously, he needs to survive (declining demand for mega expensive shoes). The diversification (purchase of Gatto) may keep the Lattanzi shoe business running along so he can still offer his first love (Lattanzi shoes) and still remain in business (Gatto takeover will still provide enough income to continue to operate).

Re: Anyone have Lattanzi?

I've heard good things about Bestetti in Italy, but have no personal experience.  FWIW, my shirtmaker wears ready-made Barrett shoes, an old-line name based in Parma. Sorry to digress.

Re: Anyone have Lattanzi?

By the way, since man does not live by shoes alone, Lattanzi is also the name of a very nice restaurant located in the theater district of New York, serving authentic Roman cuisine.  For those of the Hebraic faith, they serve Roman Jewish cuisine, the owners originating from the Jewish community in Rome.
