I have an old pair of brown wingtips (my brown brogues) which i got from my uncle. Others have called them gunboats - is that a common term? i like them a lot. they're the only ones i have.

I have Vass Budapester, Alden longwing, Hanover longwing, florsheim longwing, Brooks Peal (Sargent) brogue boots...all great shoes. Perfect for wearing with jeans
Would love to include a Dinklelacker in my collection at some point.
They're deffo an aquired taste, but once you can "see" the awesomeness of them, your life is changed

I love long-wing brogues, but I'm simply not impressed with modern offerings.
They just don't seem right somehow. It may be a lost art (to design those things).
One would hope Allen Edmonds, and Alden, would get it right: but they don't.
The British are hit or miss.
Unless one has a time machine, bespoke may be the only way to get a good wearable show, without buying shoes that are like army boots.

Ah man....l can't imagine how good it must be to have long wings in your collection.
ln the early days, l bought my gunboats through a Florshiem seconds shop. Unfortunately, they never had longwings in the stock. l always bought the plain toe and captoe gunboats (there were always unusual runoffs of shoos never available in the stores). Wore the gunboats everywhere as a teen (in creeks, up mountains, on the beach)...destroyed quite afew of the rascals too.
Just bought a mate a pair of his first Trickers gunboats last week. He is absolutely delighted with them.
l've only ever seen one long-wing in real life. A blake stitched Moreshci.

These things should be long and sleek (not stubby & fat).
Country grain leather is also best.
