Pity rubber chunky soles have to be so ugly.
lf you really insist on shoos with an ugly rubber grip, why not get R.M.Williams. They have a good boot with a rubber grip over the leather sole.

I still haven't bought those Redwings I keep looking at...
I rather like the ugly aesthetic as they look like nothing else over here. Yet I look but don't buy.
I should drink more before shopping I think.
I have the Red Wings with the white sole; don't find them that ugly at all. Don't wear them that often but they became very comfortable once broken in.
The Red Wings second from the top with the crepe sole look like a variant of the classic Irish Setter. I had a pair of Irish Setters from the time I was 15 into my 30s. A second pair that I got was destroyed by a Japanese Fighting Dog (puppy mischief!) about 11 years ago. Good boots--if they're made to the old standards. I always assume the crepe soles were for bird hunting in plowed fields. I did find them too good for negotiating our Western terrain, where lugs are better.
l saw one of those ugly red wing boots for my first time ever today. Very nice quality uppers. l was impressed by the quality of the boot.

I got a version of the first 1, I pictured, above.
I have had my eye on these for a while as they might be practical during the monsoon season here:

Any experience?
I thought that if a shoe has a goodyear welt, it can be resoled. Do I need to be disabused of this idea?
