This is going away back. I think this was Robert Redford's directorial debut. Circa 1980. I hadn't seen it since I saw it in the theater until a couple of days ago when it was on TCM. I could only watch a couple of minutes. The fashions were strikingly right for the very Waspy era. And I remember a year after it came out the horrible Mary Tyler Moore character had become a WASP icon of propriety.
I mean people wrote essays about how she wasn't the villain. Still a very painful watch for those who know the ending. But maybe she was the hero. what do I know. certainly she nailed the style of the era when I was coming of age. A great actress. and at that moment she hit her prime. After her fabulous comedic career, she portrayed one very scary lady.
I still dress that way. I still can't believe that there are actually people who don't dress that way. But I am way out of date, I know.
A horrifying ending, no doubt.
