Why is it a load?  Is it because it appeals to lower and middle class people?  Or is it something else.

Good point Uncle - but may I offer up something else for the mix- on the whole the English are not good at change- it takes a long time for the English to catch on to anything percieved as "new"- nevue has such negative tones in England - where else can a hard working - industrious man - who has made plenty of money- be regarded with such derrision -other than dear sweet England

It all goes back to the essential question; why would one intentionally choose to wear RTW when they can afford bespoke? Understand this, and the quirks of American Trad all become clear.

I'm not even sure where the line is drawn.  I mean, I've been looking around for tab and club collars here in the UK and everyone has told me that they are "American" collar styles, even though the former was invented by Prince Whomever of WhereEver and the latter originated at ETON (of all places!)
