I've had really good luck with the "ace" model of Falke athletic socks which I bought in Paris.
I've also bought Wigwam (USA) that were really good, though the 100% cotton wear out -- just a fact but the quality is there.
As for the article, I've liked what Sunspel gear I've worn.
