Mine is an old one from Swaine Adeney when they used to be next to Fortnums (A present).

It looks a little like this (the tan one) but it's that 'raw' leather with the white bloom to it. And it certainly wasn't this expensive either.

I try to have mine polished several times a week, depending on my sweet wife's mood. Oh wait... Damn thread title is misleading...

Mine rarely sees polishing, but I occasionally have to give it a quick swipe when the dogs are shedding. I believe the past time it was really polished was about three years ago after getting knocked about in the overhead luggage bin on a overcrowded flight.

What is the best way to polish one is my next question.

Living in the country I mainly just need to get the mud splatters of mine every so often so that's as much as I do.
I would however like to give it a good polish to 'feed' the leather if nothing else. Purely to prolong the life & good looks of the thing.

I really don't trust anything not to rub off on my clothes though, as I walk along swinging it by my side in my usual cheery fashion.

Can anybody recommend anything which they know is safe?

It gets polished at least once a day, more on the weekends.....but only if im lucky
