Something about this discussion calls to mind that old saw about a legal mind being one that can think about a thing that is inextricably attached to something else, without thinking of the thing it is attached to.
I'm all for decoupling Trad from its class pretentions, but I fear it's a lost cause.

Point of clarification. IMO, it is normal and desirable for people who care about their appearance. I do think about what I wear and if it is appropriate, looks nice, and, yes, makes me feel good. I do not think about what I am wearing as if it is some "look", as in the uniform of a fashion movement. As if you or in, or you are out. That persistent element killed the trad forum.

Russ ol' chum,
surely the Ivy style when worn in England resonates with some meaning other than mere cover for the body? My point is that even today these clothes are still "coded." We can dispenses with the sainted mas and pas, for sure. But ol 'arry did have the germ of truth behind his fantasies. You might not like it or think it snobbery or something ripe for satire (and it is and has been) but the "signals" are still there, however weak.

I think the natural shoulder is the one deal breaker.
Looking back so many other elements have been employed by the look, but the shoulders have always stayed natural.
But of course natural shoulders have changed too over the years...
This is the worst possible style to go looking for a uniform in. And yet that's what we see so many people doing.
The Trad forum has a genius for always playing its weakest cards!

I was reminded yesterday of my old idea to start a 'Lobster' forum to promote the John Lobb wearer's lifestyle...
Lobster hats.
Lobster cars.
Lobster hair styles.
I rather think that Lobsters would like Python too... Chapman was the most Lobster-like, No?
