One man's awesome post,, perchance another's inane.  Rojo setting some straight, albeit referring to his yacht and city clubs.

Re: Awesome Post of the Day

The one thing to always remember is the most important & most obvious thing:

The 'Codgers' aren't "Trads". Only young Internet Rojo is.

He's looking at them and dreaming away & they I'm sure would be amazed by AAAT if they had any idea that it even existed.

Check out the older generation on the forums - not that they're 'Codgers' as Rojo calls them. Show me one knowledgeable American poster of the senior generation who buys into "Trad".

They know better.

Bill Stephenson AKA 'Intrepid' is the closest you'll find at nearly 80 - & he's an OPH fan. Those who actually knew classic American style before Preppy tend not to be too enthusiastic about AAAT.

(Maybe that's unfair to Bill... Maybe he dumbs-down on purpose just to join in with all the 'Tradly' fun.)

J.

(Quick post)

Very good thread by Manton on the Northampton shoe factories. Must have taken some decent time to do the essay/topic.

You'd expect me to always sneer at Harris & you'd be wrong in this case.
He's learned some new names & he's sharing them. I like that. I enjoy his need to do so.
Yeah, he passes it of as 'So what?'. It's the usual fake-casual delivery.
But at least he shares his new findings.

I don't.

And more to the point I increasingly won't.

If you want me I'm in a smokey basement in Soho flicking the Vs.

smile

PS: Harris, given his stated age on the MBs, was 10 in '81. This makes him 17 when he bought his first Press suit in '88 (20 years ago).
Ben Silver was well known to him & his father down in Virginia before anybody else was. Brooks especially. They'd never heard of Brooks in Virginia waaaaay back them. The Silver catalogue used to be  quite a feature of the ol' Harris family coffee table... (This theory discounts Harris's orginal claim to be a Yankee, btw.)

So how is our chronology working out here?

Lemme check Ben Silver's website...  '83 is their first mail order catalogue with one blazer later added to their range of buttons. '84 they added Repp ties. '96 is when the catalogue starts to extend its range to include more clothing building up into the catalogue we see today.

Dear me Harris, you don't give yourself much breathing space in your backstory do you?

When did you discover Brooks then? I don't think we have a date for that yet.

And Andover - When did you discover them down South?

As a fellow frequent poster on the "Trad" forum I only want to know what it is I've joined.

Help me out here?

Jim.
