I would like to say I was a punk but the truth I stood on the edge of that one and never had the nerve to dive in. The reality was a lot near formby's experience. Orange billowing cagoules which after ten minutes were as wet on the inside as the outside from condensation, oxford bags which were probably one of the most unflattering trouser styles ever invented, huge tie knots, bell-bottom jeans that could entirely hide your feet, and that perennial favorite - the mullet.
In rural England it was an interesting time because in the course of a decade the style changed almost entirely. In the early 70's things looked as they had for the last twenty or thirty years. By the end of the 70's it had all changed. Maybe it was because the 60's had entirely bypassed my part of England and we were catching up.
^ I just fell hopelessly in love with the brunette in the second photo. I will try to ignore the reality that she's probably old enough today to be my mother.

Egadfly and others...
When we talk about hiking boots worn during the 70's, which styles do you remember?
I remember the mountaineering style, tan suede with red laces being the uniform of the day. I was very small at the time, so I may be mistaken, or there may have been others.
Also, as for corduroy pants being worn during that time, I remember alot of jean-style cords. Were other, more chino-like styles worn commonly in that era?
