I always thought they were approximately equal and it was simply a matter of personal taste?
The Lobb shoes that I have bought are longer. It really is a matter of personal taste at this level. I dont know if Lobb is as accomodating as Edward Green appears to be with special orders but certainly if you are wearing a pair of Lobb shoes, you are in good shape.
At this level its really a matter of personal preference. I have several pairs of EGs (Newbury, Westminister, Oundle, Berkeley and Southwold) and 1 pair of JLs (Dickens in Parisian Brown) and tend to prefer the EGs primarily because of the antiquing and the 888 last. Again, many others may possibily prefer the Lobb's

Let me go out on a limb here and say both are over-priced. At least my observation from handling & inspecting them in stores. Feel free to saw off the limb on which I am balancing...
l spoke to a certain expert shoo maker and he said that John Lobb use better materials/leathers than E.G. And given Mantons recent thread explaining John Lobbs strict leather selection (much stricter than E.G), it would make sense that John Lobb makes the higher quality shoo (material wise).
No experience in either as of yet.
Then again: i'm alittle skeptical of these analine leathers. Crust leathers seem more durable because they absorb creams./noirishment better and remain more subtle over time.

I never liked the Lobb Paris shoes and threw mine out. Too long and pointy for my feet and then there was that smell.
Yes Doc, but not every person in the world wants too know...
A little education never hurt anyone. If it's not of interest, that's OK with me also.
Mr. Fritzl, I have sent you a PM, so that Panzeraxe does not have to avert or tire his eyes.
I think it was a famous retail sage here in the States, Sy Syms, who stated: "An informed consumer is our best customer."
I've also had far less than good experiences with Edward Green, and generally due to the fact that they don't spend a lot of time in their MTO department with fitting. I am also not a big fan of their overall aesthetic, but that is neither here nor there.
