Just to say that this isn't a "Trad" only thread. I only write about that stuff because it's all I know pretty much... And I'm still sure that 'Harris' is talking crazy-talk about Shetlands...

Any aspect of style from any forum on any subject is welcome here.

"Okay, I got the charcoal Andover shetland in the mail yesterday (the green is on backorder) and I think I can answer a few questions. The tag states "Made in Scotland for The Andover Shop", though where or through which mill is not stated. Since this is my first "real" shetland (my other's are BB), I don't know how shaggy this is compared to Press or another maker. It's certainly shaggy (what my wife called fuzzy) but not in a bad way. I do think it will take some getting used to in that regard but I don't see it as a problem. There are no visible seams anywhere. It is not saddle shouldered and, in fact, there are no shoulder seams at all. The only seams I find are side seams and slight seams where the sleeve attaches to the shoulder. It is a long sweater (I'm a size M) and it feels like something hand knit. When I put it on, it has that pull and feeling of something like your grandmother knit for you (in a good way). I certainly don't know if this makes it a hand knit shetland or not, but to me it seems pretty close.

Either way, it's a steal considering that the BB shetlands are roughly the same price and nowhere near the same quality. Later, I'll try and throw some pics up but I usually have trouble getting them to load on a hosting site. We'll see...

A glance tells you it isn't rubberised cotton, old spot.

If you want that (Having another one of your Fedora forum moments, old chum?) then Cordings was always the source, but I'd advise against it. They are overly expensive for a raincoat, they smell, they are noisy, they are unwieldy, drape badly and require fussy looking after (you mustn't let them get too warm or leave them in direct sunlight for too long).

Hey Pat!

These are Italian style loafers. There are 3 kinds of loafer in the world broadly: Italo, Anglo and American.

This is an Italian take on the US style. A hybrid.

Alden's Tassel jobs are an American take on the Anglo style. Also a hybrid.



... So maybe those loafers you're looking at could be Talented Mr. Ripley "Trad"?
