I got in to debt hugely over my Ivy League fetish in the 80's - Trips to the US, hotel bills, stuff from Brooks & Press. Only getting married put me straight & even then I was paying off my numerous credit cards well into the 90's. I bought in bulk everything I saw, especially shirts. When J. Simons had hand-framed Shetlands I wanted them all in each colour.
What did it cost? Money comes & goes, but what it cost me most was my reputation for being sensible beneath it all. Nobody thinks I'm entirely sane anymore now.
