Re: The 'Ask Andy About Clothes' "Trad" Forum -

Aside from the effects on forum chatter, I wonder if much or any of this made any impression upon retail sales patterns.  Have the "trad mainstays" witnessed an increase in sales or significant influx in new buyers?  Or, have they, perhaps, sold a few more ties or ocbds here and there?  Perhaps it is something in the middle.

My own hunch about the phenomenon would be more like this.  The entire "trad" concept was a reflection of where a subset of the fashion market was heading, with the internet giving people a soapbox from which they can opine congruent thoughts.  Without the market trend, Harris would merely be blathering into the wind.  IMO, the current form of traditional dress is, in large part, a reactionary movement.  Sure some of have always dressed in similar form, as have I (but without the rules).  However, the militancy behind the movement reflects an inner angst about current cultural trends - a key trait motivating more than a few fashion styles.

AAAC offered an outlet for this expression, and condensed it into syrup form, ready for mass distribution.  But as all good informed consumers know, that which is dehydrated, from concentrate, frozen or otherwise not whole and fresh is not really authentic or pure.  It might as well be, horror of horrors, Ralph Lauren with a logo.

Re: The 'Ask Andy About Clothes' "Trad" Forum -

Got a PM from LA GUY telling me to stop or suffer the usual penalties so I've wound up the SF thread. The story of "Trad" is well & truly out there now I think so that job is done.

This is my latest with AK:

""Trad" is going to be more interesting than ever now as an internet construct I think. The clothes will remain boring as hell, but the phenomenon of "Trad"'s next move should be worth watching. Will it get into the reality of traditional American style as I hope? Will it turn into a 'Fedora Lounge' style exercise in fantasy and honestly admit that? At the moment it's a Fedora kind of place, but pretends not to be. We'll have to see how the punters react after things have sunk in a little. I should think there'll be quite a bit of head in the sand burying too.

Thanks to AAAC for making it possible. Both good & bad it's raised the profile of this style of dress which was really my only aim apart from having some fun. You have been very good hosts & I do think it's true that "Trad" couldn't have come about in the more rough & tumble atmosphere over on SF. Some good can come from anything."

Re: The 'Ask Andy About Clothes' "Trad" Forum -

^ Well said.

I've been PMing a few of the guys from that thread to chat, but I'm letting the thread sink now as per LA GUY's wishes. Why not? The truth about "Trad" is now 'out there' so what more is there to say?

"Dashing1" has bumped the thread like a tit I notice since I killed the thing.

Pavlov's posters, eh?  Go figure!!   wink

Tee-Hee! And then my mate Dopey bumped it & so has my new mate Manton!

Shame I had to kill the thread to keep LA GUY happy... I've PM'd "Dashing1", but it's not the same as smaking the nebbish down in public. He so clearly takes all of this seriously thus proving himself to be all the things he thinks to try to accuse me of being. There are a few others who could use a humility check there too, especially those Pavlovian posters who always care enough to post to say that they do not care. If you don't care then why read & post? And I wonder why that other guy mentioned me being Jewish? Why was that worthy of mention to him? Odd because I'm not remotely Jewish. My only Jewish family connections go waaay back on my Mother's side and even then only by marriage. My mother's family also provides my distant Russian and Irish connections too...

Oy! To be sure, to be sure, Comrades. To be an English Gentleman is to be a wonderful patchwork. wink

ABC stuff, but you are kind, Sir.

Now that the story is 'out there' there's no excuse for playing the "Trad" game in its current form any more. Those who do are going to look mighty... Well, how would you describe a person like that?

...

Lacking in Knowledge?
