Always good to chat, Brownie.
I think the "Trads" should work out what they are - If they want to be American traditionalists then become them. Dress in the reality of the style not the "Trad" cartoon. If they want to be a Fedora style forum then go for it & make it clear that they don't think they're doing anything else.
At the moment they do Fedora style schtick & pretend it is backed by the history of classic American style. The worst of both worlds.
Let's be honest - There is a lack of knowledge about this style of dress on the Internet. That's how "Trad" was sold to the punters. They didn't know any better. They bought into the fantasy & they cling to it because they want Harris' sainted father to have taught him the secrets of "Trad" so he could teach them. What they don't know is that Harris' posts are full of mistakes and 'borrowings' from others. But others did know. And the punters hate it when the truth comes bothering them in their little Internet bubble world.
This is really common on the Net.
The 'New England' look you mention is real & valid. And it's never been called "Trad" in the US until now on the Net. & given the rules of the OPH as gospel truth.
Why do it now & insist that it's the truth about this style? It's bullshit.
But you can do "Trad" if you're honest & say it's just a 'Preppy' update - That has a certain merit.
Pretending that "Trad" is more than it is is a losing game. You'll fool some dipsticks, but never anyone with any real knowledge of American clothes.
As it stands"Trad" remains a joke. So which way is it going to jump? Wise up or be honestly dumb like the Fedora boys?
What does "Harris" say?

Bow the fuck down, ye "Trads" -

Enough of your crap.

When the last Trad has been strangled with the last Bow Tie, we shall speak again, My Friend
Like I can wait that long at my age!
Redeem this thread?
You got Trad off the Net.
That's as much as you know about all this.
But because it's all you know & you like it you cling to it.
Very common on the Net.
Fact: You don't know about these clothes.
Best -
Trad, as discussed on the forums, is simply a handy name to describe a blending of style elements that have been around for a few decades or so. The blend may be an interweb invention, but its constituent parts are not. I guess you had to have been there (here) to understand fully.
You'll be a "Trad" I'm sure, Mike. But you'll die a nebbish.
This is very common on the Net. - People get hold of daft Internet ideas & hold on to them beyond reason because they live on the Net. and not in the real world.
What we are seeing here is a guy having his fantasy life (which is waaay stronger than his real life) attacked.
And he doesn't like it.
I've seen it on so many MBs before.
"Trad" in a nutshell. Or nutcase.
Prove me wrong?
