^ I got no answer for that, except I think you're right.
My Dear and Distinguished Mr Outsider and other Gentlemen,
I fear that the afore-posted photographs by the Mr Press and Company represent the decline in Western Civilisation; neither a button boot, spat, tophat, or frock coat is to be found among them - the bare minimum accoutrements for a respectable Gentleman. The garmets above would only be for hoodlum youth of questionable background, up to no good.
I remain Respectfully Sir
Your most obedient and humble Servant,
Theodore Ebeneezer Alphonsus St Bonar, Esquire
Distinguished Gentleman

A background to "Trad" - This is where it actually comes from:

Although 'Harris' posed as a Yankee at the start of his AAAC career I believe he is what he now says he is: A Southerner.
There has been a NeoCon, NeoPrep zeitgeist in the South for a while and this is where Harris' worldview comes from.
And it does actually stand up on its own terms. He blew it by making up a fake history for his use of the name "Trad" & who he was & where his ideas came from. A lesson learned I hope.
An old debating point on AAAT used to be "Is there such a thing as 'Southern Trad'?". Not for the first time I'll say again: Is there such a thing as 'Northern Trad'?
Because this NeoCon "Trad" thing comes from down South, even though it looks towards New England.
You can be in New Haven dressed in J. Press from head to toe, but as soon as you start talking about "Trad" I'm hearing Internet, Southern, NeoCon. I'm not hearing any of the other things you think you're putting out.
Thoughts?
J.
I've got a few Anglo chums online for compnay & a lot more US & Canadian chums too.
Not many English Ivy style chaps bother with all this fora fun you know. They look down upon "Trad" & they look down upon the whole MB 'world'.
'Shite' they do call it.
My short-lived Japanese contact looked down upon AAAT too...
To know about these clothes is to think little of "Trad" it would seem.
Poor "Trad".
J.
^ Shame really, I would in particular like to see a couple of regular Japanese Ivy fans post. Even for a short while, just so we can really penetrate their viewpoint on Ivy.
re: the "zeitgeisty" post...
RS, you've summarized this very well. I bought into "Trad" upon first discovery a few years ago. I'm not much for the clothing MBs (you'll never see me on styleforum) but I was originally curious about the earnest fellows on AAAT who dressed in a manner similar to my own, and I recall that I was even a fervent defender of the curriculum for a time. There is still much that is good about AAAT and I'll continue to post there, but I'm also appreciative of your point of view and that of others here on FNB.
