Shoo stretching - your experiences.

l had my first ever shoo stretched the other day. A new pair of Paul Stuart Grensons. Well....l think the cobbler has ruined them. When l wear them, it feels like the left foot is falling over the edge of the sole (eventhough it's not). l think my foot is rolling over where the upper touches the welt. The shoo WILL wear prematurely. Damage is done now. Oh well.

Beware of shoe stretching.

I agree, very dangerous especially for expensive shoes. I think the problem originates in all those iGentleman who buy their shoes really tight so that "the leather won't crease".

I have a single shoe stretcher and do it myself.  I wouldnt trust the local cobbler either.  I'm slightly wide of a D width in some shoes and find that a slight stretching in the instep fixes some shoes for me, particularly on loafers.   It might not be the recommended method, but I wet the shoe with distilled water and go slow over a few days.  I've never overdone it or ruined the shoes.

I have once or twice needed just a little room around the little toe.  My local cobbler knows his business and did it with good results.

^ Good to hear that you guys are getting success, when done slowly and when goals are modest.
