"Real" American Dress...

Interesting article from the NY Times (Sept. '06) about the appeal of Trad/Preppy/Americana. It even features a Team USA list of the 10 Grand Old Brands.

Thought you guys would enjoy...

I've got product from five out of the ten listed: A-E, Brooks, Press, Bean and Woolrich...for whatever it's worth. I think I've had Arrow shirts in the past,  and I bought my boy an HSM suit last year.

I think I will put the khakis, and striped ties into the closet and pull them out again when this fad has passed.

^ And it is all about information you're right.
The biggest problem with the discussion of all this has been the amount of' filling in the blanks' that's gone on. Some things we know & some things we still don't - Such is life. Making stuff up just  to round out our theories is not on.

It`s like you always said uncle-trad is what it is - but it is what its not that defines it.

I think the linked New York Times article illustrates this beautifully.

Was it you or greatest uncle Gomez that penned it?
