Very nice.

A fascinating and thoughtful essay, Buff. I shall have to re-read it again at my leisure in the immediate future to see if I can make any intelligent comments, which I doubt.

Very nice work, FNB. Very nice.
Your links between the Upper and Working class in England are absolutely spot-on. Most Americans would try to link the English Middle class to the Upper class and get it hopelessly wrong.

It's all about details.

Best -

Re: English dandyism, yesterday's and today's

Dandies are as old as civilisation and have existed in all cultures they tend to thrive in conformist societies. The dandy to me, displays a true and radical difference in both his/her appearance and manner. This strikes a chord because most of us are oppressed by society's conformity and we are drawn to those who are fluid and seemingly natural and flaunt their differences...

Agreed.  Very well written essay.  You should post more often.  The endless discussions surrounding the Trad Question are exhausting.

True. A forum is only about what people post on it.
