Re: A Defense of Manton: Enough is Enough

I have no personal animus against Manton. Much of the time I agree with him, sometimes I don't. I think the lad ought to realize if you are going to set yourself up as the Great Guru, you might get some flak and ridicule.

That said, between Manton and FNB on SF of late, the animosity and vitriol have been very disproportionately a one-way affair. His attacks on FNB for his weight seem especially childish and cruel.

However, Manton is unquestionably a sartorially knowledgeable guy. I say we ought, once again, to extend him an invitation to participate in this forum. I certainly think he is bright and acerbic enough to fight his own battles against any critics here.

Re: A Defense of Manton: Enough is Enough

My Dear and Distinguished Sirs,

I must confess that, regretfully, I am not acquainted with this famed personage, Mr Manton, and I devoutly hope that such an innocence on my part does not invalidate my opinions on this matter. It seems that the essential point of contention here is a matter of personality, and, as a dear old mentor of mine - a Bishop was fond of saying, what personalities put asunder, personalities can reunite. I therefore, Sirs, offer my personal services to act as arbitrator between the two parties, and wish that all may be put right before too many sunsets.

I remain, dear Sirs,

Your Most Obedient and Humble Servant,

Theodore Ebeneezer Alphonsus St Bonar

Re: A Defense of Manton: Enough is Enough

I think I was banned for insulting the moderator because he demanded that I respond to him or her about a negative Manton post. I loved the posts of FNB, Mark G. and Horace. I could always learn something from them. I never learned anything form Manton's posts. And I ain't no dummy. The guy wasn't that knowledgable. I mean he knew some stuff, but nothing like the mainstays of this website. Just my judgment, but I did unleash Harris on an unsuspecting world.
