l agree about the vest thing.
I too thought the vest gave the whole ensemble a rather clownish look.
Hate to sound so philistine, but with all the tailors on the Row in those days, I think it would have kept me away from Huntsman, not drawn me to them. Of course, I was only 16 then, so I sure wasn't thinking about Savile Row suits at the time!
I was struggling to remember what that style of waistcoat is called. I finally manage to find the reference. It is called a Tattersall waistcoat with the short separately cut skirt.
I just found another reference (The Modern Tailor Outfitter and Clothier, 1955) which calls it a "fancy waistcoat" and remarks that it was formerly called a Badsworth waistcoat. It was apparently worn when riding but was quite popular during the nineteenth century.
The photo is gone.
Was it like the bell shape line in that sketch from 1959?
