I've always felt there is little reason for clothing to be expensive, other than exotic materials or some serious skilled tailoring.
Like the ancient Athenians of Pericles' day, I too like to cultivate elegance with economy.
Except for my W.W. Chan jacket (P&H Solway fabric), nothing I'm wearing at the moment cost much:
Costco BD shirt: $13
Costco wool "Fancy Pants": $40
Land's End wool necktie: $25
RL Pocket Square from outlet: $12
A-E Harrisons on closeout: $129
The belt I'm wearing was a gift (Kramer shell cordovan). The prices for the Costco items are what I paid; the corresponding items would be a little more today.
I like to think I look pretty decent withal.

^ Yes, but remember the Row and others do the same gig, just the outworkers are less brown or yellow in skin tone. I am also reluctant to pay for marketing budgets and whatnot, and unions, in high retail prices.

From what I have seen Allen Edmond's makes nice solid laceups. Although I'd prefer Church's or something the Edmond's are much better priced.
