Drake on knit ties

What makes Drakes knitted ties so special?

Every thing starts with the raw material, we use a specialist spinner in Switzerland where the yarn is spun, dyed and finished in a way that assures the crunchy touch and ‘’Cri de la Soie” that our ties are famous for.

The silk is knitted on knitting frames that are almost 100 years old, the old machines knit much slower than modern machines but deliver a quality which is far superior. After knitting, the ties are sewn together in one seam at the back of the tie, then put on mould for a day and a night to achieve the finished shape. The ends are then closed and the labels carefully sewn on by hand.

When wearing knitted ties, always use the classic four in hand knot, don’t even try other knots, they just don’t work with knit ties. After wearing, it’s best not to hang the ties, but to roll them. This way they will retain their shape for ever.

In addition to our solid knit ties, we also offer the knit tie with hand sewn spots, each spot being individually sewn using the same crunchy yarn. Many would consider this to be the height of sartorial chic.

Knit ties, think Michael Caine in “Get Carter” wearing a sharp mohair suit. Think grey Shetland jackets with button down oxford shirts, and chalk stripe flannel suits worn with brown suede shoes.

If you check out other knit ties you will find that they feel much softer than Drakes knitted ties and with nothing like the body that our knit ties have, altogether sadder, poorer imitations of a Drakes classic.

Never had access to the Drakes. An interesting commentary.

Re: Drake on knit ties

Love knit ties. Drake's are of course great, although I frankly do not see the difference with many I buy from makers in Italy...

^ The shirt was the thing. Surrounded by solid, plain stuff.
But that was just him.
