Coincidentally, I've been ruminating on the simple elegance, or elegant simplicity, of the Brooks Brothers button-down collar shirt and their modest prices, given their iconic stature. And, so easy to obtain. Even better when made in America and I kick myself that I no longer have my collection of those great shirts. Combined with a BB repp tie and a BB suit or jacket, and you can be as stylish as any man on the planet.

Proportion is a subtle and lost art it seems at times.
Marc, so true about the BB button down. And they only get better the more you beat on them.
I'll never forget my father, a Brooks devotee, and I driving up Madison Ave one Sunday evening, many years back as a child, and my father pulling over and parking in front of Brooks' flagship store, and he and I getting out just for him to gaze admiringly into the store windows. That illustrates the relationship with the Brooks Brothers customer of times past.
Yes it is amazing how little things can make your day just alittle bit better. Just the way a jacket drapes, or how a shirt feels, or even how good a solid strong goodyear welted shoe feels. That's why we like to get nice clothing; it makes life just that much more fun.

l used to hate button downs. l had too many of them as a very young man and l considered them in a poor light. But thanks to Russel Street and a few others, l have rediscovered it. But not just that, l can really see much better situations where the collar can be worn. With the right outfits, the buttondown can look quite mighty.

A little thing that puts a smile on my face is the mirror-like precision of the length of my coat sleeves. You wanna talk OCD, I've worn pencil-striped shirts and have actually checked to see that each coat sleeve comes down exactly to the same stripe of the shirt cuff, illustrating perfect sleeve symmetry. My tailor is the only one who achieves this with every coat, it's uncanny.
Well why not. You've paid for the privaledge to do that.
