Re: The Dandy Traveler

I own four pieces of Globetrotter Luggage, so I'll take it as a compliment: The Dandy Traveller. Two years ago in Positano, the luggage definitely got noticed by the Italians. The best source for it is actually Molton Brown in London, they're knowledgeable about the different lines and the convoluted price structures. My pieces were made as "one off" as they were special ordered.

The Company has no known published address.

Re: The Dandy Traveler

The stuff used to be very reasonably-priced until a decade or so ago.  It became very expensive, very fast.  I have a few old pieces.  I tried to get one repaired but would've had to have sent it to Burlington Arcade.  Maybe they have service in the US now.

Re: The Dandy Traveler

The prices got ridiculous, I don't know why. There is a cult following for it in Japan.
Conrans, NYC, reportedly sells in the US. The Company has no published address. There is no way to contact them directly.
Presumably, whomever sold it to you would be of some help. I assume the hardware went bad?

Re: The Dandy Traveler

It's a long shot, but I have an Asprey briefcase, made by Tanner Krolle, some 15 year ago, bought in London. Lock went bad. Asprey NYC has an outfit they use, fixed it/replaced it quite nicely. Their customer service dept may reveal the name. That said, if you could get the hardware from England, I am sure it could then be rehab'ed in the States.

It always bothered me that Globetrotter will not reveal their whereabouts. Some sort of James Bond anonymity.

Re: The Dandy Traveler

Incidentally, that Centenary collection is far more expensive than its regular line--all you really get is the two leather straps.

Re: The Dandy Traveler

I think I paid about $650 for the 21 inch trolley thru Molton Brown, see their website. The London shop is pretty knowledgeable about the line. They are all made to order. The prices go up with color, hardware, leather straps, leather edges, etc. Not really rational.

Certain colors are substantially less than what J Crew and others advertise. Harrods and Selfridges all stock the line. The Burlington Arcade shop seems geared to only the highest price, limited editions. The leather straps on the trolley is very important. If you have to check your luggage, and don't lock it, it will open up otherwise. I asked them to put on the leather straps on my two trolleys, and they wouldn't. Seems they took my advice subsequently.

They wear very well.
