Flip through an LL Bean Catalogue at random whilst you're next on the John... Go on -

The presentation of the women's clothes & the combination of textures and colours is far better than the way they present the men's kit. Don't you think?

They simply have more ideas going on.

Now I don't suggest that you find yourself a nice Khaki skirt to wear with your Camp Mocs, but I do think that the imagination employed in American Traditional style for women could be harnessed by men who also like the Traditional American style..

A bold post I know. And only a man as manly as me would dare to offer it.

What do you think? Do you see what I mean?

A cotton knit crew neck sweater worn next to the skin with some Khaki shorts is a great pared-down totally American look. Less is more. Check the men's pages & there's a T. or BD under the cotton Crew every time- Just not needed!

Anybody else get style hints from the Girls?

Never wittingly or deliberately. However, American casual wear is now almost totally unisex, with both sexes wearing T-shirts, shorts and jeans, sneakers and sandals, etc., with little to differentiate them. So, I would probably have to answer, "Yes, whenever I am doing yard work or something similar." However, when I appear in public, I strive to dress unmistakably like a man.

I haven't got old LL Bean catalogues so I don't know exactly what you mean... I once wore a brown v-neck with nothing underneath, probably due to spilled drinks or a shirt getting soaking wet or something, it was over ten years ago. Somebody commented it looked girly, one other said it's Jimmy from Quadrophenia, others said it looked good. I liked it but I dare not repeat. A bit pointless post but I'm drunk now. But hang on, sometimes I do wear crew necks with no visible shirt collars or a visible undershirt. Is it 'dressing like a woman'? No.

Interesting post. I always thought the LL Bean womens offerings were a bit masculine. As the Captn points out,, much of casual clothing is unisex (Norwegian sweater, loafers, ect.). But also,, me thinks that part of the whole New England rugged outdoors theme embraced the whole thick ankled, natural faced lass look. Personally,, I would rather one of those Vassar girls -- at least one can be sure that they are not ol mike or Tony V in drag again.

Something that gets me about LLB and LE casual offerings is the color choices. Especially with Bean, take the polos for example: the men's color options are the greens, blues, grays, dark, and "heathered" colors. All the fun summer colors are only sold in women's polos: the pinks, lavenders, yellows, light greens, etc.
