Re: Updated Rubinacci Website

Read, in Italian or English, the history of the Company, the restoration of the village/factory, the role of the local population. It is a bit tedious reading, but quite an unusual business. Compare that, for example, with an inherited business, allegedly conducted as a favor to one's pals with lesser taste, or some such nonsense. I don't think you will see the Cuccinelli brand cheapened by private label cologne or wristwatches.

I can't help but get the feeling something happened between you and Rubinacci.  Care to share?

Re: Updated Rubinacci Website

Matt, where can I get that jump rope? At least it's their cashmere. I don't think they've crossed over to 'private label' watches or cologne.

By the way, no one will comment on the Rubinacci cologne. I was offered a jug of it gratis (since I'm such a good customer of the Carlyle). Not wanting to be corrupted, I passed. Does the fragrance have a hint of...

a) musk
b) red dye #2
c) Aquavelva
d) hubris

For those studying this lesson, the recommended answer is likely d, hubris. I think Kaplan offers a review course if you need remedial help.

Re: Updated Rubinacci Website

Some people will like a particular brand or make, others will not.  That's life.

Some people will dislike a brand or make, because (i) it's "an inherited business, allegedly conducted as a favor to one's pals with lesser taste, or some such nonsense"; (ii) it lists a hotel as a point of sale; and (iii) the owner smiles a lot.  That's really odd.

Perhaps the real reason for the disdain is that Rubinacci doesn't keep his head down and dutifully play the role of the humble tailor, toiling away cross-legged atop a bench in some clapped out workroom?

Re: Updated Rubinacci Website

I don't think people in 'Sales' pretend to have much interest in working at a bench. Working up a sweat doesn't really represent their Brand.

It's a shame Mr. Cantabridgian doesn't weigh in, as I think he's the only guy who has used both extremes, London House and Laboratorio Chan. I believe both did the minimally constructed model. I would be interested to know if the he got treated with respect by both merchants. Was his time valued? Was he treated as a high value target, I mean customer, or a one-off curious test driver? Was customer satisfaction important to both merchants? Did he make a new friend, or did he just want to get some clothes made that give him some enjoyment?

Anyway you cut it, it's still the rag business. As a Sage has written..."all else is commentary."
