I used to love Hathaway (and Arrow too...) - All of this was before finding Troy, Brooks, Press, etc., in the mid-'80s.
I used to buy Hathaways from Simpsons, Piccadilly (in London) in their Art Deco shirt department at the Jermyn street end of the store.
Only got one left now from whenever -
'81 to '85 I used to buy them and they are, along with Arrow, my first imported U.S. shirts bought in the U.K.
They are a fond memory now.
£19.99 or something they used to cost - Nothing really...
Box pleat.
Locker loop.
A skinny BD collar (back then).
Blue or White Oxford, and the Blue/white University stripe that I loved.
"Made in Waterville, Maine".
They should come back.
And bring back HIGH (well, -ish) quality Dexter's too.
God rot R.L./Polo.
... And then there's Sero - "Nothing is obvious except the quality".
Everybody has their own list, I'm sure...
Even as late as '90 Trad (or CAD) was not just alive but full of life.
16 years later and Trad (CAD) is... well, ... what it now is.

Couple of quick things. Y'all probably know that some Hathaway shirts are still available at Press. How many are left, I don't know.
Also some new old stock may be found at hugestore.com
Speaking of Sero, the last made-in-America incarnation of Sero (post Sero of New Haven???) may still be found at hugestore.com in limited qualities using the same TTX fabric that GItman uses for some (or all???) of its shirts.
The fit of the last American-incaration of Sero, I don't like. I understand that they were cut on "uniform" patterns. And I find that they run a size below what's stated in both sleeve length and collar size.
I'm sure Shirtmaven or others will know more about it. Duke Grad has also written on Sero and its history on AAAC.

Perhaps, the eyepatch was indicative of some sort of heroic elan. It does seem a bit eccentric in retrospect. Imagine a modern firm doing that!

Some time in the past year the factory in Prescott, Ontario closed. Now the Canadian Hathaway shirts are made in Guelph, Ontario at a factory owned by:
