"Recipe for TNSIL with SA, Fall Look #1
Opt for more trim cut cords, perhaps even Brooks corduroy jeans. Combine with gingham check button-down, perhaps a solid knit tie, chocolate suede penny loafers, and a oh-so-soft natural shouldered tweed sports coat. An all cotton white t-shirt should lie underneath, to catch the heat, with oxford cloth boxers and a bit of Extract of Limes."

I never had a Mini-Gingham, but it sounds tempting...

I wouldn't have called this gingham, but they call it a "country club gingham with overcheck"... Dunno, at least no sheep, I am not a fan of the fleece emblem on the breast with some of their sport shirts...it's not a horse, but...
....off topic, an English spread collar, thing, OK, but not very expensive, and also nice quality:

off topic, OK, a slimfit Sherman, but after the short sleeves discussion:

You can cover up the logo by wearing a sweater vest...
There is so many Gingham out there! Sometimes you can also find nice stuff at C&A in Germany, or TK Maxxx in the UK, or in any other high street retail store...
What are your faves?
Favourite current brands/ models?
Any pictures of vintage gingham shirts from Arrow, Gant. Sero, Troy or other makers...or any old ads? Esquire? Sports Illustrated? Playboy?
gingham is my fave shirt print
there's something so clean and smart about a gingham buttondown shirt worn with a harrington and you just see the bit of collar sticking out over the jacket collar. or with a cardigan/vneck and just that top bit of gingham shirting is visible. I'm addicted to this look.
I actually don't like gingham worn on its own (visually), without a jacket or jumper over it.
Agree 100% with GS, but wouldn't wear a BS to save my life.
another gingham fan here. very much in agreement with jason.
tomorrow i'll prob'ly wear a red small gingham brooks bros one to our soul do.
I bought a Lee one last summer - it's slim fitting but with quite a wide neck so it can be worn buttoned up - which is how I like to wear it with a v-neck or cardigan as per Get Smart above.
This is also worth reviving. About time gingham got another airing. I'm wearing one now, a B.D.Baggies 'Legend' with a pointless button-down collar (unbuttoned). Nice, subtle shirt in other ways but I'd guess a roving committee of idiots recruited directly from some former polytechnic design department got their heads together over the collar. 'Pinched' isn't the word for it. Anyway: gingham: very nice in green, very - James Coburn in 'Charade', is it?
The 'Legend' was about the price of a packet of crisps BTW. Ebay.
Yes. I’ve got half an eye out for a decent green gingham. Had an Austin Reed one years ago but didn’t get on with it as the collar buttons were hidden underneath. Really into mint green on shirts generally at the moment.
Possibly my longest serving shirt is a Duffer red gingham. Must be late eighties/very early nineties. I only wear it under a jumper or cardigan. On its own red looks a bit skinhead to me? A Gant in light blue gingham gets a lot of wear.
Mercer sent me some swatches of their blue gingham shirtings. I waited too long to order and they no longer carry the exact size of gingham that I preferred. I still might go for it though. It was a great fabric. And blue gingham always looks clean.
Gingham check is just great. Vichy ... A touch of "French Ivy".
Linking together two strands here, I have just sold on ebay a 1960s Brooks Brothers button-down in a very fine red gingham check. It was in perfect condition, a 6 button placket, a rare and beautiful specimen. Despite 17 watchers no-one was prepared to cough up the £50 I was asking for it, except for one buyer from the home of the Ivy Look - Japan!
I expect the fact that Brooks are well represented out there didn't hurt. Here - what impression have they made? I went into Regent Street a couple of days after it opened and was sorely disappointed. But Frosty reckoned it was all over for them by 1985.
