AGQ, although your clobber is decent on the eye, it's so f*ckin bland, it's scary. Just my opinion, like. But to me it's dot to dot or painting by numbers which is what rails the f*ck out of me and does my cake in. You could get a bus down your trousers and it's standard vulture capitalist stylee to my eye.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I cannot see how that would be described as bland. Not with that waistcoat and tie.

Looks like wedding gear not standard office wear. Special occasion rather than run of the mill.

And to pick up on the half brogue thread, IMO true 'granddad' can be a good look especially when many of today's grandads are wearing ear rings and pirate trousers. You might say it is fogey, but to me fogey is a more deliberate seeking out of the clothes of yesteryear.

Not that I am that bothered one way or the other. It is not something I would get in a flame war over. I still find it hard to believe I post on clothes forums.

I always enjoyed reading AQG's posts and the pics are a treat.
The man is wearing the clothes, not the clothes the man. Always the most important distinction.

Not a fan of the upholstery stylee though.

Looking great!

Today it's sand suede Clarks desert boots, navy socks, raw denim H&M 'Sliq' jeans, thick brown leather belt, pink traditional fit Brooks supima BD, Brooks navy sack blazer.
Got a burnt orange thick shetland v-neck in my bag cause it'll get chilly here later.

Re: Ivy League style for today

AQG, you look like every single venture capitalist I've ever had the misfortune to meet who's ready for 'battle', with a disposable income to blow on clobber but no idea how to do it, hence you end up like you do. Well dressed, but tired, old, stale, bland and safe. Put 100 vulture capitalists, lawyers, or any establishment worker in a line and you get that look. You obviously think you look the dogs, otherwise you wouldn't have put your photo up, so lets just leave at that. For instance, Patrick looks a good 20 years older than you, yet you dress like twins.

Two put downs in one post.

Maybe the sort of stuff that appears on The Sartorialist is more your thing ?

I am High Street Man so definitely tired, old, stale and bland.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I think that both Patrick and AQG scrub up well in their own way and have put themselves up for comments from the Forum.

Perhaps TSC could give us a "twirl" and he can show us all how it should be done!!

On second thoughts, I care less.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I think that 'less is more' is really working for Pat and that AQG obviously has a role to play at work and the expectations of his clients to fulfil. But that's just my take.

My Brother's experiments in Ivy style are still limited to his weekends as being a London legal type he feels he can't quite make the move to wearing Ivy in the office yet. He says he needs to look like he's expected to look, although he dislikes that fact more and more these days.

I get the sense that like certain others here, me included, TSC has a bit more freedom to express himself through his clothes whilst at work. Not everybody is in that situation sadly.

His comments on AQG maybe highlight AQG's style as a 'Power Look' (remember that old expression?) which I'm sure is AQG's intention. He needs to look like a recognisable success to his clients to inspire confidence.

Suss and Ivy style is just a London thing I think, although with a nod to TSC I'll admit that the Northern English version 'Nous' is probably very similar. It's unique to England anyway I think. Ivy isn't regarded in quite those terms elsewhere as far as I know. Not even in France.

I also think that Pat is looking more & more youthful these days too. More relaxed, more fun loving, all the things I aspire to myself in fact.

Brother TSC - This might be fun: Why not restyle AQG & Pat? You've told us what you see as being wrong about them, now can you help them to put it 'right'?

Probably you'll wonder why you should, but on a clothing forum it's the kind of thing we're interested in here.

So if you were a Laywer or a Newspaper man with an interest in Classic (or even updated) American style how would you dress?

No wrong answers.

It would just be a bit more positive than simply telling them where they're going wrong in your eyes.

I'm confident that you have ideas to share otherwise why would you log on?

C'mon - Just a few little style pointers for AQG & Pat?

Best -
