My POV is that the DOW wanted out when it became clear that he would have to fight & fight again just to live his life.
When he couldn't do what he wanted on his own terms he turned his back. Why live an 19th Century life in the 1920s/30s?
Thing is, had he not been a king he could have been a happy man.
His bro., who got stuck with the job, George VI wasn't a happy man either. It made him ill too...
The current Queen has a great sense of duty, but I don't know how much of a laugh she has.
Prince Charles is miserable already most of the time. I can't see him perking up when he is king...
