In theory, I rather like French cuffs and consider them decidedly more elegant than barrel cuffs.

That said, I haven't bought or owned a French cuffed shirt in literally decades.

Perhaps a legacy of my prep school days, when I did wear them alot, but were I wearing really nice links, I would be worried about losing one, and I certainly don't want to wear cheap, cheesy links.

Moreover, I hardly ever wear a suit. I wear odd jackets constantly, and I feel barrel cuffs harmonize better with the latter.

Like 'em, wear them. French cuffs obviously require some sort of fastening mechanism which is usually a cufflink or silk knot. If you're wearing a jacket, which you should with a shirt with French cuffs, your cuff links won't always be on show, therefore a temporary flash of an unusual and/or beautiful cufflink can have a powerful effect on the observer and can be a real conversation starter especially with the fairer sex who tend to notice these things...

I'd wear FCs everyday if I wore a suit everyday and had a specially trained maid who washed and ironed my shirts.
