I get them without. I just don't like the feel of shirt pockets...if I must use a pocket, I just use the interior coat pocket.
I question the figures. Only 25% of shirts have pockets, where once it was 90% ?
I don't think so.
That is not what I see around me. Sure there are more double cuff shirts worn than there used to be in previous decades which means less pockets.
However, most shirts are still not double cuff. The button cuff shirts I see all have a pocket.
Do they count T shirts in the numbers ?
I always remove the pocket from a patterned shirt if it has one. The pattern hides any evidence of a pocket being there. If I have a shirt made I always omit the pocket. I just don't see the point in them. It's fine if it's a work shirt & you're going to put pens etc in it, but not on a dress shirt.
I don't have them, too many leaking pens when I was a student....
I like shirt pockets. Say, on a checked cotton flannel, a button down oxford, or a standard spread collar voile shirt a pocket looks proper. If you have your shirts made, a pocket that is sized and positioned correctly, and with details such as rounded edges that are finely finished show the superior skill of the maker.
On the other hand a pocket would look out of place on a more formal shirt, e.g. a white panama shirt with spread collar, french placket and double cuffs.
