The Newman photos in Ivy Style reminded me of a question that I have been meaning to ask you guys.
Obviously, the OCBD is the coin of the realm here. However, what is the common wisdom regarding collar pins with straight point, or what BB calls club collars? I'm not talking about the club collar with eyelets designed for a collar pin, but the slide on type.
One on Newman looks good. What is your opinion on the collar pin with TNSIL suits and jackets?
Chums,
Perchance a bit like bow ties,, some blokes look good with a bit of something under their mug,, some do not. I never cared for the ol clip on type of either tho.
Cheerio
I love collar pins. I wear them with club collars mostly, like the kind RL Rugby makes. They work well with short-pointed straight collars; it creates a look similar to a tab-collar, with a bit of added bling. My only advice would be to be wary of wearing a pin with a collar that is too stiff. Remove the collar stays before pinning. Other than that, pin with abandon and see what works. Polo has been showing OCBDs pinned with the collar buttons undone.
I only have two shirts that I wear pinned, one of them has a rounded club collar. Of course, you have to take out the collar stays first, because that's the place where you pierce the collar...
All of the above posts are right on. Best wishes, all my friends.

I have also seen it done with unbuttoned OCBD collars, although the jury is still out on that one. Seems a bit redundant to me. I'm tempted to try it, however.
In my youth I used to sport the pin puncturing the collar but, as Russell Street says, it plays havoc with your shirt. I once asked in BB if they did an appropriate shirt; the offer was to make an minimum order of three with eyelets which I declined. However, I seem to recall that they also offered the slide-on clip that Press does now. This was probablyabout 1988.
I don`t know. I`ve never actually tried one but I am prepared to give it a go
DB brings up the reason that I asked the question. I have two good friends that are very well dressed, and all bespoke.
One has shirts that are all club collar with eyelets for the collar pin. The other guy has point collars and always wears a slide collar pin.
FWIW, the guy with the slide collar pin seems to be constantly fiddling with it to try to be sure that it is on straight.
