Good job I don't live in the US as I'd look a complete cliche today: Norwegian sweater, OCBD, & flannel lined Khakis...
Today I am cutting down a tree (before it falls down & squashes my potting shed) with a chum and then chopping it up into logs for the winter.
I feel like a Preppy Charlie Ingalls... With a haircut.
But what footwear goes best with this get-up?
Something big & rather rustic I think - Redwings, Timberlands, Paraboots, Bean Gum Shoes, those Heavy Duty Boat Shoes or Bluchers that Bean do/did... I'm sure that there are many more options to think of too -
What do you wear with your flannel lineds?
Today I'm opting for my Gummers.
Best,
Jim
Not heavy duty at all, Jim. But we were similarly attired yesterday.
Bean bluchers are always the default option for me, in this situation. Admittedly, I wasn't chopping down anything, so maybe that is a factor.
Phase Two of The Tree is today - It's quite good fun actually. Great traction from the soles of those Bean Gumshoes too.
The Heavy-Duty Blucher may be a new thing Matt, not sure. I have their heavy-duty Boatshoes from a few years back & suspect that they might be extending the heavy-duty range -
Regular:

Heavy-Duty:

You'll note the increase in rustic 'chunk'.
We had a thread on shoes for Cords not too long ago on the Wardrobe forum here - I think that flannel-lineds call for even more helf to balance them out. Probably they're the trou. that require it most?

Heavy duty bluchers look good, Jim. Don't have them, but they do indeed furnish the heft that might be called for with wide wale cords, and such.
Someone (I think Brownshoe) had a thread on something like sartorial comfort food, or some such.
The regular LLB bluchers fall in that category for me. Very comfortable, goes with about everything up to a suit, and are priced so that scuffs don't cause you to cry yourself to sleep.
After about 20 years, I've never found anything that is quite as versatile. For the confirmed anal, there is one other addicting benefit. I have never been able to keep rawhide laces tied, so that they aren't a bother.
There is a web site by someone named Ian, that demonstrates how to tie a knot that will stay tied, guaranteed. With the bluchers, you can throw away the ugly laces that come with them, replace them with 27" brown sport laces, and you have a winner.

Several options (in the past) for me to wear with flannel lined khakis from Bean. Loafers, since the Bean trou have the right (or used to -- dunno now) proportions for it. Bean boot. A heavy country wingtip or plain toe shoo. I might even do the pebble-grain Scotch Alden with crepe sole.
These options also got a mention on The Ivy Underground overnight:
