I should be able to tell you in a couple of weeks when mine arrive.
Hello Chris
Never actually bought this brand but my only observations would be that these shoes are surely too cheap to be any good. $44! I have had 2 pairs of the J.Simons Playboys over the years and whilst falling in love with their looks I was hugely disappointed with their quality - and these were about £100 a go and Made in England. The Sanders are I believe an infinitely superior shoe in every way. I am strictly rationing the use of mine so as to ensure their longevity. And whilst on this subject can I just say that I have yet to see in any shop anywhere a version of this boot which really closely tallies with the Steve McQueen classic a la Bullitt/William Claxton pictures. His is much more refined and a lot softer and sportier than any of the versions I've seen (and bought). Once or twice on well shod Italians I have seen versions which are pretty damn close, and in that lovely tobacco colour too. There's a chain of shops in Italy called Boggi which I believe sometimes sell this shoe but I've never actually caught it myself. These boots represent to me the Holy Grail - when I get that urge to graze the shop windows I have in my head these shoes, the ultimate Ivy suit and the perfect knitted tie. When I get all three I will be happy to leave this mortal coil.
Brown suede, should go well with anything.
I am admittedly a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to shoes, but I'm not hard on shoes and I almost never have fit issues.
At about the price of a pair of Chucks, that would be about the quality I'd expect.
I would advise anyone on here NOT to order shoes/boots from that particular firm in Mooses original post. I ordered a pair of shoes from them Six months ago that never arrived. They were extremely unhelpful, which is to say they didn't even bother to reply to my numerous emails. I eventually had no alternative but to make a claim via Paypal, with whom I paid for the shoes. Amazing shoes still didn't even bother to reply via Paypals resolution option.
Fortunately for me Paypal decided in my favour and I was awarded a full refund. So please think twice before ordering from these people!

Bad form indeed.
I'll keep you all posted.
Have to echo Toffeeman about the Sanders - infinitely better quality than the George Cox ones I have. Was going to try to find some Original Playboys but will know reconsider given the quality - John Simons told me much the same thing about them also.....
What do the Yanks out there think of the Playboy style?
I've heard nothing but negative stuff from da 'Trads'.

I am on the same page as Jesmond and 1966 with these shoes. I regard my Sanders as both nice shoes and retaining some of the more typical playboy qualities. I sort of prefer the George Cox/Original Playboy shape with the less sophisticated toe but find that the Sanders are more versatile. I have a pair of the George Cox boots in black that are superb, no problem with the quality, and another pair of the Cox shoes in brown suede that literally started falling apart in weeks. Different looking to the other pair too - slightly thinner sole etc.. Hard to believe they were both made by the same company. Or maybe that is the point - possibly they changed (cheapened) the method of manufacturing.
My first pair of the Sanders I got from J. Simons, subsequent pairs I got from Citishoes in New York. I think it was Chris H who pointed out that they were available there - thanks! Never seen them anywhere else in the US although supposedly the Original Playboys were available here in the 70s or 80s - not sure.

A presto,
Uomo di caramella
Mr Toffeeman,
complimenti per il Suo Italiano! La prossima volta che capita a Milano mi avvisi con un pm, se Le fa piacere potremmo incontrarci per "a shot of espresso" o un drink e visitare qualche negozio.
Yep, suede chukkas are the urban-country shoes of election for many local gentlemen; I wouldn't be surprised if soon some niche shoemaker decided to produce something in the proper Playboy style.
daniele, whenever it'll happen please let me know!
Just noticed Trickers Mudguards in the shoe version as opposed to the Chukka on Yahoo Shopping Japan. Up to size 9 UK. Look fantastic.
I have been looking to purchase some lot top Playboys in either suede or leather. I read the earlier conversations about Playboys and wanted to know where and or how to purchase the original Playboys.?// Is there a site in Spain or Citi shoes or J.Simons in London...I grew up in New york and these shoes were very popular. My friends and I still talk about these shoes as they were comfortable and stylish Bruce_Dobbs@hotmail.com 404 246 7899
