A quick visit to my local shopping centre was rather revealing. Most of the popular high street brands (Polo, Hackett, Boss, Armani, Timberland etc) are offering peacoats, jackets and trenchcoats with epaulettes. Barbour's new range is dominated by military styles. What's next in these times of recession and depression - brownshirts and jackboots? Am I the only one who finds this trend disturbing?

Where did you get your British warm? I have only seen one recently - in Baron on Piccadilly, around £200 IIRC.

I've seen the military influence on coats for a few years now, so I don't think it is necessarily reflective of the economic situation or anything. Remember, the mods had adopted the wearing of those old olive drab military parkas many decades ago. I have a couple of coats with the epaulettes, and a couple where I had a local seamstress remove them. Ralph Lauren has been drawing his inspiration from military styles for quite some time also, including cargo pants and military looking coats and jackets.

This trend went around in the early 1990s, I have some old GQ magazines to prove it I think.
