Re: Ivy League style for today

moose, thanks! they look nice, with a price like that i might consider, with my ever-shitty finances and whatnot..

when buying shoes with u.s. sizing i've used the following rule: buy one or one and a half number up, when lace-ups, when loafers, buy your size or half number up ( i like my loafers a bit tight as they  always 'bend' a bit when in use). say, my uk size is 9, when i've bought some vintage us wingtips off tha 'bay for instance, i've gone for 10 or 10.5, if brogues are slightly too big (but not too much) i don't mind.

hope this messed up 'instruction' helps.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Yeah usually add half a size to your UK size.
I've been tempted by these gbx playboys as well. Would be nice to have a navy blue pair, especially at that price.
But like Jesmond I'm also sceptic about these. They feature a synthetic rubber sole unit, and that sets all the alarm bells ringing in my snobby little head. Their silhouette looks alright though from the pics I've seen.

^I should have a crew cut but my head is too big/face too fat. I would look like a Don Martin drawing in Mad Magazine.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Robert Hall made good suits in the 50s and 60s.  I have always wanted a tweed suit but I worry that as soon as I walk indoors the tweed pants will be way too hot. And scratchy.  Hot and scratchy.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Great pics and cool outfits in these last pages!
Please to "meet" you Heikki!:-)

Mine today is a pink bb 3bd, a vintage chocolate brown shetland sweater, short, halfway between a standard crewneck and a mock turtleneck (the neck actually rises a bit, like in those casual minets pictured in 'French Cut' essay). Tan Levi's cord staprest (a bit re-tailored), dark brown socks, cordovan loafers.
A boxy overcoat (navy blue, above the knee lenght), scarf, green nappa leather gloves with buckles, Persol 649 shades a-la..ok,you know who..;-)

OK Paddy, where's the link to your scribblings? Can't search the cyberfori far and wide 'cause you're being coy, yet again, can we?

One hopes the lizardvolk in NW Conn appreciate your sartorial whimsy.

Ya need to whitewash the clapboards.

Ain't it about time for you to realize that lifelong ambition and go to a lot of expense and inconvenience to go Patagonian walkabout and throw some salmon back into the waters, sporting gent that you're. You might enjoy it more than a red Miata.

Ah, Robby Hall, I fastly outgrew those Sunday suits as a wee young'un. Would like to know if that jacket exhibits any hand stitches in the lining shoulder and arm seams? Also, is the collar felt attached to the body by what appear to be hand stitches? Even mid range suits used to have a smattering of hand sewing. Thank you in advance for your considerate response. I remain your humble servant, Haard.

Bit more hair and you'd have that young Mailer thing goin' for ya.
