I have 8 good jackets in the 11-12 ounce range (seven from my friends in Kowloon), plus a couple of "beaters." I have debating whether I should get a heavier jacket in a 15 or 16 ounce fabric for our very coldest days here in Southern California. (Days in which the highs get below 50 F are very infrequent here.) I am well aware of the iGent fetish for heavy cloths. I am wondering if such a garment would be practical in my part of the country, or if I would be better served simply by pairing one of my 12-ounce jackets with an overcoat. Any observations and comments would be appreciated.
Thing is, a jacket of that weight prolly would be uncomfortable if worn in a heated indoor environment. My $.02, just wear an outer jacket.
The above answers are very sensible- but experience tells me there is an enormous gulf between want and need-however in this instance the two converge.
If you feel the need for a heavier jacket-go for it
If you feel you want a heavier jacket-go for it
