Never Mind Grey or Blue...

... What about Red or White?

Why is White wine chic in London, but red is considered cooler out in the provinces?

Genuinely puzzled.

White wine is lighter and better for drinking when youre at a party or bar hopping. Red wine is more substantial and flushes me. Too heavy and hot. Although a large glass of Shiraz can put me on my azz....

White wine in the USA was once something only the elite drank, as in "white wine and polo coats."

Oh, anywhere outside London.

I suspect there is more cache in drinking wine outside the Metrop. & therefore a bit more snobbery about it. A touch of the iGents maybe.

Most people drink cider where I live.

God, I wish we had good cider where I live.  Plenty of good and inexpensive wine, though.  California, Oz and Chile pump it out like mad.  There's lots of stuff made locally, but it tastes a bit like Kool-Aide to me.

Re: Never Mind Grey or Blue...

I once attempted to make my own cider from apples in the orchard-the ex Mrs. monkey made apple pies-everyone who sampled her apple pie ( ironically not a euphomism) were most complimentary -everyone who sampled my cider ended up with a rather severe case of diahorea.
