Gangsters have attitude and bravado, or at least they do in the movies. The real ones ive seen are slobs.
Wait, is Hayes the one who defended those two police/mobster/hitmen guys here in NYC?
Gotti was odd in that he was fashionable and good looking. Most of them are real slobs both inside and outside.
Cagney was always dapper in his gangster movies. You can see his wardrobe in color in "Love me or leave me". Not a great film but I think Doris Day was very pretty and you get to see cagney's clothes in technicolor.
Hayes is also a member at the London Lounge as well as being a participant at the off-kilter, smarmy "Sartorial Excellence".
He was also the de facto enemy of Fred Hughes, the dapper manager of Warhol's estate.
