I went into the London's shop to pick up 2 items I bought online : a attaché case and a whangee umbrella.
There were no client, they close at 5 and the young salesgirl is not friendly at all.
The goods are disappointing : The case was damaged and the brolly looked utterly different from expected and told by the staff of SAB.
The brief case had a hollow zone at the level of the studs of the top and the whangee umbrella bought on Papworth was terrible ( with horn tip instead of ferrule, the canopy felt like plastic and the shaft was chuncky).
I would not recommend this shop. I lost 30 minutes and about 100 euros because of the exchange rate.
I had a Brigg umbrella years ago, but, didn't get more than a couple seasons use out of it because the thread tying the tips of the ribs to the fabric unraveled. I never bothered to have it repaired, which was a pity. I like my Gustbuster for its durability, esp. under windy conditions, but if you prefer a more elegant umbrella, I've heard good things about Fulton...

Ernesto, since SAB was purchased by a corporate comglom a few years back, they have let most of their divisions go to pot. They had the Hat sit UK and let it go to pot, had and have Herbert Johnson hats and allowed a million dollar a month oppertunity go to pot allow Nicky Johnson to represnt thier concerns with it and the website. The Management and Try and Lilly was no better and the employees at HJ are reduced from a knowledagable old hat shop with the retirement of Mr. Swales to a simple outlet for chinese goods as Locke and Bates all have done as well with the exception of the hats that Patey's private label for them which are precious few toppers now.
Thier Luggage as well has became strickly commercial as well as the umbrella's and more. A three compartment hat luggage may be bargain priced at 1200.00 but is no bargain at all when it does not hold up to a year of light travel.
They are a simple statment of moderism and may as well have Wal-Mart above the door for concerns of quality and mis management instead of management in that department.
Pitful are the lot of them in all the levels of experince I have had with them.
Swaine Adeney Brigg is a shadow of its former self. There is better value to be had elsewhere and the staff are are arrogant and snooty. The clothing downstairs is a joke - nowhere near the quality of Cordings.

Lock's caps are made in the UK by Lawrence & Foster (http://www.lawrenceandfoster.co.uk/) who manufacture in Yorkshire. Michael Alden and Will Boelke have ordered bespoke caps from that firm.
Bates uses the same firm as Lock, Olney (http://www.olney-headwear.com) to make its calico cotton hats but is a third cheaper. Olney offers a wide range hats and may supply other items to Lock and Bates. You can order its stock from the list of retailers on the website, probably cheaper than St James's.
It is only logical that firms outsource production of certain items, e.g. Panama hats but posters should check their facts before making allegations that a respected retailer sources its products in China. They expose themselves and FNB, as publisher, to the possibility of legal action. Personal opinions on quality, value etc are fine.
Hey,
am considering a briefcase/attaché case, I have seen Foster and son's and Swaine's, but still considering Sage Brown, I do not know what it is worth compared to the two other ones though (a lot less expensive though...)
Whatcha think?
