Maybe this will help bring more younger people in the trade as apprentices if wages start to rise to reflect the growing demand for cobblers?  This could help ease your discomfort over who will be around to repair all of those fancy schmancy shoes you have Shooey.. wink

I have said this before, but the iGents need to STFU and go work for a shoo company, instead of complaining about how no one does good work anymore, how no one makes shoos in the US anymore, etc etc. The reason companies leave is because iGents don't like to pay full prices for anything, so companies need to save money, which means lower wages, which means fewer new workers, which means going overseas eventually.

I think what the current economic shakedown will ram into people's heads is: thirty years of low-paid but steady work is more desirable than five years of ridiculous but unreliable pay. The former lets you plan a lifetime, the latter is flash-in-the-pan.

Perhaps a side effect of this global slow down will be that people actually enjoy their things rather than live for the new purchase.

Fix your old car instead of buying a new one, too.

I know the media thinks this is the Great Depression II, and others think this will be over in a year, but whichever happens a great many people will never have another well paid comfy job again. THat will have an impact.
