and some more Maybelle Smith:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp11vxr_pD4

Big Maybelle~ Whole 'Lotta Shakin Goin On (1955)

the whole Okeh Sessions are highly recommended!

...also from the 50s you should get a copy of her Hit-Single on Savoy Records "Candy"... the B-Side "That's a Pretty Good Love" is a dancefloor filler, but it was really in demand last year, so it's not as cheap as you might think! I guess, it's now between 40 and 60 bucks, but I would have to check... I could find Candy, but I couldn't find the flip on youtube....

but wait... here's the shellac issue:

last but not least, a soulful ballad from 1964 on NYCs Scepter Records...

@Mr Hardy: Thanks for 96 Tears! Big Maybelle's Version is really the best!

Anyway, for all those unaware, here's the original by "one-hit-wonder"

? & The Mysterians:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkvK638yKuY

It although charted in the UK with the arrival of psychedelia...

It's a crude 60s Punk/ Teen Beat/ Garage Band thing. Primitive, basic R&B with a catchy organ riff and an easy cheesy singalong...

insane novelty stuff...

just like this:

The Cramps - Surfin' Bird

I just had to post this, thinking about Lux Interior, singer of the Cramps, King of Camp and all things bad and sleazy... RIP LUX!!!

for those who don't know:

"February 4, 2009

Lux Interior, lead singer of The Cramps, passed away this morning due to an existing heart condition at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California at 4:30 AM PST today. Lux has been an inspiration and influence to millions of artists and fans around the world. He and wife Poison Ivy’s contributions with The Cramps have had an immeasurable impact on modern music.

The Cramps emerged from the original New York punk scene of CBGB and Max’s Kansas City, with a singular sound and iconography. Their distinct take on rockabilly and surf along with their midnight movie imagery reminded us all just how exciting, dangerous, vital and sexy rock and roll should be and has spawned entire subcultures. Lux was a fearless frontman who transformed every stage he stepped on into a place of passion, abandon, and true freedom. He is a rare icon who will be missed dearly.

CAN YOUR PUSSY DO THE DOG? "
